Trough Conveyors

Advantages

  • Commonly available
  • Familiar design
  • Lower cost per foot
  • Handles a wide range of material types and sizes

 Disadvantages

  • Limited incline angle of 18 degrees or less
  • Requires more linear space
  • Requires more structural steel supports
  • Requires more mechanical components
  • Requires more horsepower
  • Requires more maintenance

 Sidewall, Flexwall and Boxwall Conveyors

 Advantages

  • Flexible configurations
  • Can convey at any angle from 0 degrees to 90 degrees
  • Requires less space than a trough conveyor with the same lift
  • Less horsepower than other conveyors with the same material lift
  • Requires fewer mechanical components than other conveyors
  • Lower cost per conveyed ton of material
  • Lower capital cost for high-lift systems
  • Conveys material of varying sizes
  • Conveys wet, sticky materials without loss of capacity

 Disadvantages

  • Less capacity than similar sized trough belts
  • Material carryback must be considered
  • Susceptible to belt damage if not maintained
  • Larger pulley diameters typically required

High Angle Conveyors (HAC)/Sandwich Conveyors

 Advantages

  • Can be used at steep angles
  • Carryback material easily controlled

Disadvantages

  • Cannot handle large lumps in the material
  • Cannot handle a large variance of material size
  • Requires more structural steel supports than trough conveyors
  • Uses complicated mechanical components
  • More moving components than trough conveyors
